The Science of Cannabis 5 Things that Happen to Your Body 

As cannabis popularity continues to boom, it's important to know the fatcs about the plant and how it affects the human body. Science has continued to show the medical and societal benefits of cannabis, and today we will take a look at some of the ways in which cannabis can treat a variety of medical symptoms as well as enhance the human experience. 

1.    Creativity
Your brain is where creativity begins. Neurotransmitters pass on neurons from one to another, but there can be a gap in the transmission to help keep your mind calm and controlled. THC, which very closely resembles Anandamide, one of the natural transmitters in your brain, can help to stop the gap and allow for amplification of ideas and information. In fact, a 2012 study proved that cannabis can help to increase creativity. Researchers tested schizotypy and divergent thinking, both measures of creativity. One day, cannabis users were tested when sober and the next, when intoxicated. What they found was that in people who were ëlow creativesí when sober, cannabis lifted their creativity to the level of ëhigh creatives.í

2.     Anti-Anxiety

Scientists are beginning to show that marijuana may be a beneficial treatment for those of us who suffer with anxiety disorders. Many tout relaxation and stress relief as one of the prime benefits they gain from smoking marijuana. Vanderbilt University conducted a study in 2014 that found that cannabis increased the naturally occurring endocannabinoids that drop as a response to stress. Weed also helps decrease dependence on prescription anxiety medications ñ a Canadian study found that patients prescribed cannabis for their anxiety were able to come off of prescription benzodiazepines within 90 days. Take care, however, because large doses of cannabis, might actually heighten anxiety temporarily.

3.    Weight and Metablosim Control

Sure, cannabis can give you the munchies and junk food cravings, but research shows that pot smokers are less likely to be obese than those who donít partake. A study published in the American Journal of Medicine in 2013 suggested that cannabis smokersí metabolisms have a healthier reaction to sugars than non-smokers.
  
4.    Improved Lung Function

A January 2012 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association claimed that smoking marijuana does not have the same carcinogenic effects as tobacco ñ and it might even increase lung capacity and reverse the damage done by tobacco. Researchers tested the lung function of 5,115 young adults over 20 years. Those who smoked marijuana gained lung capacity while those who smoked tobacco lost lung capacity. However, scientists note that pot smokers tend to take deep inhalations of the drug and hold it, and that may explain the increased lung capacity rather than any of the components in cannabis.
